My Top 5 Make-Up Must-Haves While Traveling

1. Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Concealer

This is one of my favorite products to wear because it helps me look fresh, bright-eyed and natural in all of my photos. I don’t like to wear a lot of products, even when I’m not traveling, so this concealer paired with my foundation and powder are just enough. My makeup lasts all day when I wear it, even through sweat, tears and rain. It also helps me feel a little less oily. I would never travel without it.

2. MAC Studio Fix Liquid Foundation

I love the way this foundation goes on my skin and blends with my skin tone. I started wearing it years ago after saying goodbye to Mary Kay, which left me ridiculously oily. I’m sure there’s a more lightweight foundation that would work better for really hot days, but this has been my go-to for years and I haven’t liked any others that would give me this type of coverage.

3. Clinique Blended Face Powder

This powder is the perfect finish to my face. While I know many women love a translucent powder, I’ve always preferred one that matches my skin tone. Clinique’s powder sets everything just right. The downside to this brand is that it doesn’t have very many shades, especially for darker skin tones.

4. Maybelline New York’s Great Lash Mascara

Many of you know this mascara as good ol’ faithful in the pink tube. It’s one of the cheapest brands out there, but it hasn’t failed me yet. (Okay, okay. I’ll admit I ventured out to a Bare Minerals mascara in my early 20’s, but I quickly returned to Maybelline once that product was discontinued.) I prefer the blackest black shade with the curved brush. Because I strongly dislike the look and feel of fake lashes, this gives me just what I need to flex with my natural eyelashes and it draws attention to my eyes without needing the help of eyeshadow or eyeliner.

5) Banana Boat Simply Protect Sensitive Sunscreen SPF 50+

This may not be considered a make-up product, but it is absolutely a must for my travels. While many people wear sunscreen to avoid sunburn, I have to wear it on my face to avoid a nasty reaction related to photosensitivity. In other words, I’m allergic to the sun. It’s something that developed in my mid-20’s. I don’t know why or how I developed this sensitivity, but whenever I would return from trips, a rash would appear on my chin and forehead. Depending on the level of exposure, it could take anywhere from 3-7 days for the rash to go away. Because I hike when I travel, this is the first thing I apply to my face before applying my make-up. As long as I wear sunscreen, I remain rash-free.
